Physical Therapy
1. Physical therapy is a medical profession that combines skilled hands-on techniques (such as massage, joint ROM/mobilizations, and traction) with physical modalities (such as electrical stimulation, ultrasound, heat, and ice) and therapeutic exercise. A licensed physical therapist will help you determine which combination of these, or which “ingredients”, you need to alleviate pain, restore mobility and strength, and help you become the best you can be. Physical Therapists help to promote, maintain, or restore health and wellness.

Sports Medicine
- Evaluation and treatment when injuries do occur to get you back in action as safe and quickly as possible
- Pediatric, adolescent, high school, college, and professional athletes
- Conditioning to maximize performance
- Fitness and Well Being

Work Injuries &
Motor Vehicle Accidents
- One on One Treatment to help you recover quicker and get back to work and living life.
- Overuse Injuries: Tendonitis, Neck and Back Pain, plantar fasciitis, Carpal Tunnel, tennis and golfers elbows
- Falls: fractures, tears, dislocations, and whiplash

Pre & Post Surgical Rehab
- Pre-Surgical: 1-2 Physical Therapy visits to learn exercises to “get ready” for surgery. Being in better shape going into surgery will help you recover better after surgery. Learn how to use crutches if you’ll need them. Your physical therapist will teach you what to expect after the surgery so you’ll know the process, easing some fears and concerns.
- Post-Surgical: Physical therapy will help to resolve pain and swelling, and restore ROM, strength, gait, and normal function. Steve works one on one with you to help you return to ADLs (activities of daily living), work, recreational activities, and competitive sports
- Steve has years of experience helping people rehabilitate the following: Joint replacements of knees, hips, and shoulders
- Ligament Reconstructions: ACLs, MPFL and other knees, ankles and elbows
- Arthroscopic Knee Procedures: Including Meniscal repairs, meniscectomies, OCDs, and microfractures.
- Arthroscopic Hip Procedures: labrums, CAMs
- Shoulder surgeries: Rotator cuff, labrums, instability, biceps tenodesis, and subacromial decompressions
- Tendon Repairs: Achilles, patella and quad, biceps
- Neck and Back Surgeries: Fusions, laminectomies, discectomies, disc replacements
- Elbows: Tommy John, Tennis Elbow Repair and debridement

Neck, Back Pain, & Conditions
NECK PAIN:
- Neck pain may be the result of an accident or injury, poor posture, age, or the old saying “I slept on it wrong”.
- Physical Therapy can and does help with all of these. Hands-on treatment of physical therapy is proven to treat chronic neck pain.
- When combined with an active treatment approach, hands-on treatment has been proven to be more effective than home exercises or clinical advice alone.
- Physical therapy not only helps to alleviate the pain but corrects the underlying cause with exercises that help to improve mobility/muscle length and postural strength.
- Physical therapy also teaches you all about proper upright posture and workstation setups to take care of your neck pain for good.
BACK PAIN
Does back pain limit even simple things in life, such as sitting, walking, or standing? Does back pain limit activities you enjoy? Is your back pain the first time or does it keep coming back? If you answered yes to any of these, then physical therapy can help to alleviate your pain and help it from ever coming back. Often, Physical Therapy can help to alleviate your pain in only a few visits. Physical Therapy is safe and has no side effects, unlike medications and surgery which often do. An active physical therapy program usually cuts the need for medications, costly MRIs or treatments, and costs to the patient. Physical therapy addresses the underlying cause of the pain, including strength, mobility, posture, and habits. This approach not only helps to alleviate your present pain but prevents future episodes of pain and disability as well.
Common Treated Conditions:
- Strains and Muscle Spasms
- Disc Disorders
- Degenerative Issues such as arthritis
- Stress fractures
- Nerve Impingement Issues like sciatica
- Sacroiliac (SI) problems
- Spinal Stenosis
- Core weakness and Instability

Shoulder Pain
Shoulder pain can be caused by an accident or a fall, but it also quite often happens from lifting something, doing yard work, sleeping wrong, or just simply for no reason at all. It just hurts! Physical Therapy helps to alleviate the pain and restore mobility and strength so that you can use your arm again like normal. Most times doing so without surgery or medications. Physical therapy has been shown to alleviate shoulder pain even for those with chronic long-lasting pain and has proven to be just as effective as cortisone injections and surgery for shoulder problems. And, physical therapy helps to address the underlying cause and get you on an exercise program to prevent the pain from happening ever again.

Muscle & Joint Pain
Muscles strains and overuse injuries or joint problems like osteoarthritis can cause pain and limited function. Physical Therapy uses modalities to resolve inflammation and to encourage healing, along with exercises to improve mobility of the joints, muscle flexibility and strength. All with the goal to restore pain free function.

Fracture Rehabilitation:
Fractures of the Upper extremity, lower extremity, or spine can be painful and lead to decreased mobility, loss of strength, altered gait, and inability to do stairs and other activities of daily living. Physical Therapy modalities help to resolve pain, restore normal mobility and strength to restore you back to full function.

Physical Therapy as We Age
As we age, we can develop pain, lose mobility, become stiffer, lose strength, have trouble walking and doing stairs, and become more unstable, leading to falls. Doing nothing only leads to further deconditioning and more decline. The best thing we all can do as we age is MOVE!. Specific therapeutic exercises helps to resolve pain, loosen us up so we move better, strengthen for function such as walking, stairs, carrying, and lifting. Balance training helps us to become more stable and function more safely. You’re NEVER too old to do it!!! We see it everyday in Physical Therapy. Steve has formal training as a physical therapist in ageing, illness and disease process, along with years of experience helping seniors achieve better function and quality of life.
